Our Tea Range

Our Story of Excellence

In 1835, Charles Bewley landed an extraordinary cargo into Dublin: 2,000 chests of tea shipped all the way from Canton in China. In daring to be so bold, he signaled the end of the East India Company’s monopoly, and changed the taste of a nation. To this day, his spirit of excellence inspires us to create the finest range of teas and blends for you.

Some tips from our Master Blender

Here’s how to enjoy Bewley’s tea at its very best. Firstly, boil freshly drawn water. Then warm the pot before you add the tea bags; how many is up to you. Add the freshly boiled water right away and let the tea brew. Stir the pot before you pour the tea then simply enjoy perfection.

Tea and Health

Tea has long been recognised for its health benefits as it contains antioxidants. Antioxidants may help to protect our body by reinforcing our natural defences against the harmful effects of free radicals. Tea is also a source of manganese, essential for bone growth, and potassium, important for maintaining body fluid levels

Tea Production

Bewley’s tea is grown in the warmer climates of the World, in Kenya, Rwanda and India. Tea is still picked mainly by hand to ensure that only the sweeter, tender leaves on the tea trees are selected. Once harvested, the leaves are laid out in large drying areas to reduce the water content.

The leaves are then rolled and cut, in order to release the natural juices that give the tea flavours. The tea is then cooled in a large fermenting room for between 3 and 5 hours allowing the tea leaves to oxydize and take on its final colour and flavour. Finally, the tea is placed in the drying room where warm air removes the remaining moisture.
