Bewley’s Introduce Two New Environmentally Friendly Takeaway Cups

‹ Back to overview

Bewley’s launch 100% recyclable and 100% compostable takeaway cups as part of their ongoing commitment to sustainability.

As part of their ongoing commitment to sustainability Bewley’s is making it as easy as possible for their customers to be environmentally friendly on the go with the launch of 100% recyclable and 100% compostable cups. Bewley’s Grafton Street will lead the way as the first location that will have the 100% recyclable cups on offer and, as Bewley’s work with coffee operators in the Irish market, customers around the country will be able to take their coffee away in one of the new recyclable or compostable cups.

Since 2007, Bewley’s has been committed to becoming more sustainable across the business and the launch of the 100% compostable cups and 100% recyclable cups is the latest action taken by Bewley’s to help their consumers improve their impact on the environment. Bewley’s research has shown coffee drinkers are actively looking for ways to use more sustainable products with 65% saying they even understand they will be paying a premium as the environmental issue is so important.* Earlier this year Bewley’s launched their compostable coffee capsules as the vast majority of customers are actively looking for ways to become more environmentally conscious in their day to day lives.

To respond to their consumer needs and in a bid to reduce disposable cup waste, Bewley’s developed two new sustainable takeaway cup solutions so that their customers can enjoy their coffee with that added piece of mind; 100% recyclable takeaway cups, and 100% compostable takeaway cups.

The brand new Bewley’s Recyclable Cups have a specially designed liner that breaks down in the recycling process therefore leaving 100% of the paper to be recycled cleanly. The cups and lids will be compatible with regular recycling bins which consumers will be familiar with in their home or work. Bewley’s Grafton Street will lead the way as the first location that the recyclable cups will be available in.

The Bewley’s Compostable Cups will also be available. These new takeaway cups are made from sustainable paper sources and include a compostable lid. They are manufactured in Ireland and can be disposed of in the brown bin that is found in most homes and many businesses, and are then fully broken down once taken to industrial composting.

Jason Doyle, Managing Director of Bewley’s Food Service Ireland, commented on the launch, ‘At Bewley’s we have always been aware of our responsibility to the environment and always strive to reduce the impact that we have on it. Earlier this year we introduced the compostable coffee capsules, and to be able to follow it up with our new sustainable takeaway cups is something that we are really proud of. Now, more than ever, customers are looking for more sustainable options and we are delighted to be able to provide them with these new recyclable and compostable cups whenever they enjoy a Bewley’s coffee on the go.’

Key Waste, Thornton’s and Panda waste management companies in Ireland have committed to recycling both versions of the cups.
