Bewley’s Grafton Street has a long and loving association with Irish writers. James Joyce himself was a fan with Bewley’s even being referenced in his book “The Dubliners”.
It is with huge delight that we celebrate Bloomsday in Bewley’s Grafton Street on Saturday, 16th June. You can enjoy live performances throughout the day from Katie O’Kelly and Joe Taylor. Katie will be performing her acclaimed show Joyced! – a whirlwind odyssey through Joyce’s Dublin years and the events that would be later immortalized in Ulysses. Joe will be presenting Ulysses: A Beginner’s Guide – a highly entertaining introduction to the great novel. You can enjoy these shows in our Johnson’s Court room as well as tasty extracts from Ulysses popping up in various locations throughout the building. Seats are limited and will be given to those who arrive first on the day. Shows start at 12 noon and will be repeated at regular intervals until 5pm – if you miss one there is only a short time for the next show to begin!
Our weekly live Bewley’s Jazz Brunch is delighted to welcome guest Grainne Brookfield & The Jazz Poets bringing you a repertoire of classic jazz from the Joycean era.
At 1pm and 3pm, Bewley’s Café Theatre, in association with Si Productions, will present Molly – a provocative new adaptation of Molly Bloom’s famous final soliloquy. IFTA nominated actress Tara Breathnach gives a fresh and revealing portrayal of Joyce’s heroine as she lies beside her snoring husband and ponders her life choices. Her caustic wit is matched with a searing honesty and sensual vulnerability.
Molly has been described as “vivid, palpable, irresistible.” by the Galway Advertiser
Tickets for Molly are available through the Café Theatre website: www.bewleyscafetheatre.com
